Urethane Cement Flooring Installation for Industrial Facilities

Urethane Cement flooring systems are a smart investment if you need to protect, restore or enhance the floor in your commercial/industrial building. In addition to being extremely impact, abrasion and chemical resistant, Urethane cement flooring has unique benefits, not found in traditional epoxy flooring, including: Resistance to Thermal Shock and Hydrostatic Moisture Vapor. Urethane Cement flooring can often be installed more rapidly than other resinous flooring.

What is Urethane Cement Flooring?

Urethane concrete, also known as urethane cement, is a type of industrial concrete floor finish that utilizes technology to bind engineered cement powder and aggregate powders, resulting in a high-performance floor surface ideal for heavy-duty environments. These coatings are resistant to chemicals, impact, abrasion, and thermal shock. Urethane concrete systems are particularly appropriate for use in areas exposed to hot and cold-water wash downs such as food and beverage manufacturing facilities and pharmaceutical production plants.

Advantages of a Urethane Cement Flooring

Urethane concrete floors are one of the most cost-effective flooring options as well as one of the best flooring choices for heavy duty industrial applications. It’s safe, low VOC, hygienic, durable, heat-resistant, chemical-resistant, and resistant to impact shock. Due to urethane cement’s moisture insensitivity, it can be applied to damp or green concrete, permitting an application without waiting 28 days to cure. With virtually no downtime for your company, installation is quick (about three days) and can be completed over the weekend, in many cases. Urethane concrete finishes are also available in an array of vibrant colors.

How is a Urethane Concrete Coating Installed?

Surface Technology Inc uses this proven process for high-value urethane concrete flooring installation:

  1. Prepare the surface with a diamond grinder or shot blast machine. Remove all dust and debris. Fill any cracks and holes as needed.
  2. Mix the two component urethane polymer together before adding the fillers (cement and any aggregate). The ingredients must be combined in a specific order and quantity to achieve maximum results.
  3. Pour the mixture onto the floor and spread with a large screed, trowel or notched squeegee.
  4. After the mixture is applied, back-roll with a spiked roller to eliminate air bubbles and other gas pockets that may have formed from the urethane.
  5. Spread quartz particles or other finish granules on surface after back-rolling while mixture is still wet.
